38% Support Obama Re-election

There is some significantly bad news for President Obama. Even when not matched up against a Republican challenger and more than two years away from the next electoral stakes he still has a hard time finding 40% of the population that believes he deserves re-election. Naturally, these numbers are an incomplete picture of the electoral landscape for the 2012 race but it is not looking good so far for the President.

Meanwhile some of the internals did not break the President's way:

It’s Obama’s policies that are hurting him right now. By a 13-point margin, voters are down on the health care law. In an especially troubling sign, more than half of self-identified independents — 54 percent — have an unfavorable opinion of the law, compared with just 38 percent who have a favorable opinion.

Let's see who the GOP chooses to challenge him but if he continues on this path it may be an easier sell than expected. Don't write Obama off yet, though. He's a tenacious and grandstanding campaigner.

  1. I agree that you can't write him off yet. He probably has a bunch of tricks up his sleeve. He's not dumb; neither are the people supporting him. Beware overconfidence. Don't sleep!
