Incumbent Governor Bill Perry still holds a significant lead int he Texas Governor's race against opponent Bill White. The Republican governor has served since 2000 when he became governor after then-executive George W. Bush retired to become President. Perry faced a difficult 2006 bid for re-election after winning handily in 2002. Perry defeated Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson to keep the GOP nod this year, energizing his supporters.
Perry * (R): 46%
White (D): 39%
Other/und: 15%
* Denotes incumbent
Notice the high numbers of undecideds and the fact that Perry is still below 50%. The race isn't over yet but if Perry can reach the elusive 50% he may be ready for re-election.
