I am not so far away from this having graduated to attending status in 2007 following a 3 year residency in Internal Medicine and an additional year as Chief Resident. I can feel your pain and can offer you a bit of advice.
Step outside of your routine. Look for ways to network, as you are doing at Smart Girl Politics. Pick your battles carefully. Work within your bounds as they will open greatly over the coming years. Be confident, but not patronizing. Listen to your patients, they will tell you what is right.
