Obama Admin Finally Calls for ‘Transition’

The Obama Administration, after spending days waffling between backing Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak or the protesters in the streets, has finally made up its mind. Last week Vice President Biden said that Mubarak was not a dictator and should not step down. Later both Secretary of State Clinton and President Obama both refused to take sides in the dispute.
Senior administration officials said that the “transition” wording, used by both the White House and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, was carefully chosen to indicate a desire for a representative, interim government to run Egypt until scheduled presidential elections are held in September.
Last night came a decision to call for elections and the ‘orderly transition’ to a new government.
Of course, this comes after alienating many Egyptians by appearing to back their autocrat over their voices. It also played into Iran and Venezuela’s hands, allowing them to criticize ‘imperialist’ American policy.
