Out of Chaos, Heroes Arose

On Saturday, a madman named Jared Loughner murdered six innocent people, shot a Congresswoman in the head, and injured a total of 20 people.  In the aftermath, much has been spewed across both aisles.  Angry pointing fingers blaming Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, or Barack Obama has gone on, mostly in the absence of facts.  There are even those who call for the death of Mrs. Palin, for what reason I am not sure.

But out of all of the chaos that Saturday morning, heroes arose who saved the lives of dozens of people.  These people seem to have been forgotten with all the vitriol that has been thrown about.  I'd just like to take a few moments and recognize the people who acted when they had to.  These people acted despite political beliefs.  They acted because they cared, not because they were liberals or conservatives.  These people are heroes.

Daniel Hernandez- 20-year-old Daniel Hernandez, an intern, is the man who most likely saved Representative Gabrielle Giffords's life.  Knowing the basics of medicine and treatment, Hernandez tilted Giffords's head back, preventing her from drowning on her own blood.  In the meantime, he applied pressure and clean cloths to Giffords's wound in able to prevent further damage.
Patricia Maisch- Patricia Maisch, a 61-year-old woman, ran up to Loughner as he attempted to reload his gun, which he had emptied into the crowd.  Putting her life in danger, she grabbed the magazine Loughner was trying to put in his gun, likely saving a dozen lives.

Roger Sulzgeber and Joseph Zimudie-  These heroes tackled Loughner as he attempted to continue his rampage.  Putting their lives on the line in order to save others, Sulzgeber and Zimudie's actions likely saved dozens of people.

These people are all heroes.  With the vitriol being thrown, we should stop and recognize those who saved instead of killed.  Unfortunately, this article doesn't have a catchy headline or a new "scoop," so it is unlikely to be read and taken into account.
