We Were All Attacked Yesterday.

Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was not the only one attacked yesterday morning in Arizona, the United States of America was. Speaker John Boehner said it perfectly yesterday afternoon when news reports indicated the Tucson-area Representative was still alive, despite previously erroneous reports to the contrary, "an attack on one who serves is an attack on all who serve".

The obviously demented murderer didn't just wake up and decide to execute whoever he found at the local supermarket - he planned it. This coward shot Congresswoman Gabby Giffords in the head, first, and then proceeded to kill and wound eighteen other innocent individuals in a matter of seconds, one of which was a little nine-year old girl who was only interested in government.

This was an attack on all of us.

When someone attempts to murder a sitting member of Congress, regardless of which chamber, they are taking a shot at our entire Constitutional and Political foundations. They are also taking a shot at our long held principle that we are a Nation of laws, and not of men.

And as a Nation united in our laws, and our pursuit of Justice - we must all take great offense at this deliberate assault upon one of our citizens who forsook the leisure of private cares, circumstances, and comforts, for the apparent risks of public service. Whatever your political ideology or beliefs, we're all Americans in this time of national mourning.

Congress must convene tomorrow morning and immediately pass legislation authorizing every member of the House, and Senate to hire a personal armed guard for their own security back in their home congressional districts across the nation. The $35 million in budget cuts from last week should be used. Our Representatives should never again be left open and vulnerable to any assault or assassination attempt.

  1. Yeah, except he said "...is an attack on all who serves."

This statement really disturbs me. First and foremost because it echos what James Clyburn (D) from S. Carolina is requesting and secondly because citizens who serve in Congress are no better than the rest of us citizens. Clyburn is asking for special treatment not afforded to his constituents such as extra police protection and the ability for Congressmen and women to bypass airport security. In otherwords, Clyburn thinks the gropings from the TSA is good enough for us "peons", but he is above that kind of treatment.

I realize your heart is in the right place, but your above statement is very much misplaced.
