With 19% of the public's vote: Reagan defeated Abraham Lincoln by 5%; Bill Clinton by 6%; John Kennedy by 8% and George Washington by 9%. Barack Obama finished seventh with only 5% of the vote, while George W. Bush was lucky to place tenth with 2%. Only one small percent of Americans say there have been no great Presidents.
Notice the two greatest Presidents in American history are both Republicans, and the Democrats who made the top five are more Moderate than their political brethren today. Liberal icons of the Presidency were rated quite low, which is not surprising in our increasingly right-of-center Nation. Although, I am surprised that Franklin Roosevelt didn't break the top five.
Greatest President by Political Affiliation
Just one thing is for sure: Democrats (5th), Independents (1st) and Republicans (3rd) alike view Abe Lincoln as one of America's greatest presidents. In fact, I'm willing to argue that Honest Abe is our top President of all time - only rivaled by Washington and Jefferson, while Reagan is the top dawg of the modern era.
What say you?
