According to NPR, one of the most liberal administrations in recent memory is, in fact, taking lessons from a conservative hero, Ronald Reagan. And no one is learning more than President Barack Obama himself.

[T]he 40th president has more recently been adopted as a kind of patron saint by the country's leading Democrat. President Obama has immersed himself in Reaganalia. The piece then refers to an op-ed that the President wrote, in which he tied himself to our 40th President. In it, the President makes several comparisons to himself and the late President Reagan. These include "confidence and optimism" and American dreams.
President Reagan |
"One of the things that I think has impressed President Obama is that Ronald Reagan fundamentally understood that to govern you need to build consensus in America and not simply consensus in Washington," Duberstein says.
And that means telling and retelling a clear story about where you want to take the country. The president started doing that in his State of the Union address, a speech White House aides described as upbeat, forward-looking and self-consciously optimistic — the definition of Reaganesque.I'm sorry to point this out, but NPR has no idea what "Reaganesque" means. It is not just an "upbeat, forward-looking and self-consciously optimistic" speech. It is small government. It is communicating a complicated truth in a clear way. It is actions. It is results. It is conservatism. All of these things President Obama has not done; most are things he's spoken out against.
I know that NPR likes to rewrite history, but they should do us all a favor and leave President Reagan alone.
