Chirac to Go on Trial for Corruption

Here's a gem that you might have missed. Remember Jacques Chirac, the former President of France? The one that got in the way of the United States when we were trying to rally the United Nations against Saddam Hussein? The one that thought that France's business contacts were more important than terrorism or human rights?

That same one is now going to trial on corruption charges.

Chirac is accused embezzling money from the city of Paris when he was mayor, along with nine other people.

Chirac, 78, is accused of using public money to pay people to work for his political party, the RPR, and paying others to perform jobs that did not really exist.
He could get ten years in jail. Well, crime doesn't pay, after all.
