West Virginia's newest Senator, Joe Manchin, is sharply criticizing President Obama's budget proposal. While this has happened often over the last several months from various Republicans, it must be remembered that Manchin is a Democrat. The moderate former Governor was elected last fall after he produced an ad in which he shot through the cap and trade bill.
Now Manchin is eyeing the
White House budget:
The Democratic bill includes $6.5 billion in cuts and “utterly ignores our fiscal reality — our nation is badly in debt and spending at absolutely unsustainable and out-of-control levels,” he says. “We must turn our financial ship around, but the Senate proposal continues to sail forward as if there’s no storm on the horizon.”
He later criticizes the Republicans but it's refreshing to hear someone without an (R) next to their name talk tough about the budget.
