Democratic Congressman Joe Donnelly, who barely survived last November's shellacking, has announced his early candidacy for the 2012 Senate election in Indiana. Political experts expect this move to clear the Democratic field for Mr. Donnelly, while the Republican primary will likely be very contentious between incumbent Senator Lugar and the base.
However, it does not matter who the Republican Party selects because Indiana has moved dramatically to the right and it's improbable that Barack Obama will come close to winning the state again next year. Plus - Mr. Donnelly likes to call himself a "blue dog Democrat," but his vital House vote for socialist Obamacare says otherwise.
The three term Democrat's House seat is likely to be won back by Republicans next year.
Besides from the unofficial start to Indiana's Senate race this news doesn't mean all that much, although this will allow Democrats to gain a financial headstart on Indiana's bickering Republican Party, which should pick a nominee real quickly.
What say you?
