Microsoft Buying Skype

Some technological news for you. Just after Google releases its calling option on Gmail we have word that Microsoft is buying Skype for a hefty price.

The cost: $8.5 billion.

The deal gives Microsoft (MSFT, Fortune 500) access to Skype's real-time video and voice communications services. The companies said the software maker plans to use Skype to support such products as the Xbox gaming system and Windows Phone.

Microsoft is upping its game. Will Google follow?
