Israel's Peace With Egypt in Peril

The largest concern that I and other foreign policy bloggers had when Hosni Mubarak was thrown out of power earlier this year was whether Egypt would keep their landmark 1979 peace treaty with Israel as is, or quickly destroy it.

And now our worst fears are starting to substantiate themselves.
  1. Israel was attacked by terrorists using the once secure Sinai peninsula - resulting in the deaths of at least seven citizens - earlier this week.
  2. Three Egyptian soldiers were killed during a gunfight between Israeli and Palestinian forces - causing Egypt to recall their ambassador in anger.
Things never look well for Israel in the Middle East, but right now she has the possibility of one of two Arab nations, which border her, breaking a peace treaty that has benefited all sides to this point. And as always, it is coming as a result of Israel defending herself against Islamic terrorists hellbent on her destruction.

The fall of Mubarak could very well be remembered as the fall of peace once everyone has a chance to reflect on what has happened in Egypt, and Israel, since March.

Pray for Israel's well being.

What say you?
