With the newest allegations of impropriety, it appears that Herman Cain may be ready to leave the race. This comes after a Georgia woman named Ginger White accused the candidate of a 13-year affair. Cain denied the entire thing, but his attorney's statement regarding the allegations was less than reassuring.
Now, it appears that Cain is actively "re-assessing" his role in the race. Considering that the first round of relatively tenuous accusations had hurt him substantially in the polls, this may be the deathblow. This woman has texts and phone records that seem to back her story up (although we don't know the details). However, she was also involved in a libel lawsuit-- and lost.
With this re-assessment and the polls already dropping for him, Cain may very well be dropping out. I don't believe he can regain the momentum this late in the race. Even if White's allegations are totally false, the damage is done.
As Mr. K wrote, the Cain Train has derailed.
