Why is Barney Frank Retiring?

It's not clear why the Massachusetts Representative is leaving after 16 terms. He is often blamed for the 2008 financial collapse for sheltering groups like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He did this despite calls from President Bush and John McCain to reform the mortgage system. Instead, Democrats blocked the reforms and the system collapsed and we got TARP:

Now he's leaving. This comes after over 30 years in Congress.
Massachusetts Congressman Barney Frank, a 16-term Democrat, will announce Monday he does not intend to seek re-election in 2012, according to a statement from Frank's office.
Possible reasons:
  • Tired of being in Congress. Is 71 years old.
  • Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac revelations.
  • Believes he'll lose in 2012.
  • Any others? Add in comments.
