From what I've gathered from Saturday's GOP debate in Iowa, the two major stories to emerge is the $10,000 bet by Mitt Romney and Newt's ability to sustain the brunt of attacks from his rivals on stage. However, I have to call foul on the media coverage of Romney's bet, because I frankly don't see what everyone is talking about.
During another Romney-Perry skirmish involving the former's book and what he wrote about his plan and other states, even though the Perry claim had been debunked long before, Romney jokingly bet $10,000 that Perry's claim was inaccurate and offered his hand, while Perry declined the offer in good humor.
That should have been the end of it, but apparently Romney was bringing attention to his wealth (that everyone already knows about) and the media has turned his innocent joke into a debate gaffe that has dominated the media cycle ever since.
What? Did I really just write that?
Since when is joking about betting an indication of wealth! As a kid (quite unwealthy), I bet my buds million dollar bets all the time, but if you got the money to back it up, then apparently your flaunting your wealth in today's world. And if you are running for President and say such a thing, you might as well killed little lambs when you were younger.
What is wrong with everyone? Since when was it a bad thing to be wealthier than the people you are running to lead? Has class warfare won in our nation? Would Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt's, or JFK be allowed to serve in today's world?
The media disgusts me. They have nothing better to do than attack Romney's wealth in an attempt to destroy his campaign on the liberal holy grail of class warfare. Absolutely disgusting.
What say you?
