With Michele Bachmann's announcement yesterday, only two candidates are set to join Donald Trump's Newsmax/Ion presidential debate after Christmas. Opposition to the debate was kicked off by Ron Paul, who called it beneath the presidency, and was followed up by Jon Huntsman, Mitt Romney, etc. etc.
Only Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich are scheduled to appear.
Newsmax has been desperate to spin this debate since they announced it with stories documenting our major conservative organizations supporting it, but what serious candidate would really allow Donald Trump, who still hasn't ruled out running third-party, and who is bad for our party, to direct a national debate.
The best thing that could happen is either Newsmax boots Trump for someone reasonable and reinvite the candidates, or cancel the debate - because you can't seriously air just Gingrich and Santorum - you need all, or none when it comes to debates this close to Iowa and New Hampshire heading to the polls.
What say you?
