HT: The Other McCain
The political bombshell of the night is Michele Bachmann, Jon Huntsman and Rick Santorum all failing to achieve the necessary 10,000 signatures to qualify for the Virginia Republican Primary in just two months, while Gingrich and Perry barely managed to pass the threshold, and they could still be bumped off if enough petitions are thrown out.
Leaving Mitt Romnney and Ron Paul as the only candidates with enough signatures to definitively qualify for all 46 delegates up for grabs in one of the most important battleground states in the general election next year.
Talk about epic.
As someone who fully supports the Romney campaign, I'm pleased by this news, because it means Mitt is likely to carry Virginia without much issue, but I am concerned about what it means for our process: nearly half of the GOP field isn't even showing up in one of the states we plan to take back next year, which should leave some doubt about our field's strength in general.
What can you say about this? Epic fail by three candidates who want to be President, but apparently not enough to actually organize any real effort to even show up in Virginia, one of the biggest prizes.
