Who is this Jesus?

By John Brentlinger

Several items in the news this week have caused a confluence of events
which if examined closely, give credence to our topic this morning.  It was
on April 13, 1742, that George Frideric Handel's Messiah was first performed,
making it at least 270 years since this information has been out there.

And, it was just this week that Louis Farrakhan was in Nashville, Tennessee,
stating that Jesus was "a man of color," making it a couple of days since that
information has been out there.   And the other confluentic event is that our
erudite internet people tell us today that atheism is on the rise in America.
One more event I hasten to mention, they say that baboons now can use a
computer and determine real words from false words.  If that is really true, let's
put them in Congress, but, I digress.

So what is the truth about Jesus?  First off, he is not a baby in the manger any more,
although at Christmas time, you would get that idea.  He is not going around with
a little lamb on his shoulder, although you would get that idea from most pictures
in churches around the world.  And he is not a carpenter, making stuff out of wood in
the city of Nazareth.  So, who is he, what is he doing and what does he look like?

Who is he?  Get on you tube, hit Handel's Messiah, skip the video ad, turn it up full blast,
run it through your Bose if you have one, and listen to the words:  Our Lord God and King
Omnipotent reigneth, and he shall reign for ever and ever.  Just make sure you put a lot of
hallelujahs in there.  King of kings and lord of lords, btw, forever and ever.  And that,
in a nutshell is who he is.  King, Lord God Omnipotent, Master.  Interesting thing is,
the Apostle Paul says that every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that he
is Lord.  There you have it.  There is coming a day when everyone, every nation, every
tribe, every warring faction on the planet will bow down to him.  (Handel's Hallelujah
Chorus once more please, come on, it is the 270th anniversary.)

What is he doing?  Reigning, as King of Kings and Lord of Lords.  And his kingdom is
forever, spiritual, heavenly.  (Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer notwithstanding.)

What does he look like?  Real simple, don't make the mistake of thinking he looks like
you and me.  He doesn't.  He is a King, remember?  The apostle John, in the book of
the Revelation, or Revelations, like they say in Kentucky, states the following:  His head
and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were as a flame of
fire; and his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace, and his voice as
the sound of many waters.  And he had in his right hand seven stars; and out of his
mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, and his countenance was as the sun shining in
his strength.  And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead.

See, the apostle was shocked too.  Jesus does not look like you, or me, or Louis Farrakhan.
Wool, snow, fire, it is a surprising combination:  but he is King of King and Lord of Lords.

That may clear it up for most of us; the atheists and the baboons, well, maybe next time

  1. Crucial for Farrakhan and everyone else to do research to know not only what Jesus looked like, but who He was. I recommend this as a start:
