Haley Selects Tim Scott to Replace Retiring DeMint in Senate

Excellent news from beautiful South Carolina this afternoon: Governor Nikki Haley has reportedly selected Republican Congressman Tim Scott to replace Jim DeMint in the U.S. Senate, elevating the young and inspiring two-term Scott to a position of prominence in a rather short time.

Scott, who will be the only African-American in the United States Senate the 113th Congress, is an inspiring case as he lifted himself from lowly poverty as a child to become a successful businessman and now U.S. Senator from, historically speaking, the heart of the old, and oppressive Confederacy.

And even more ironic.... He defeated former U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond's son in the primary back in 2010, but now he's serving in the seat the old segregationist once served in for decades and decades. I wonder what the South Carolinian's of the 1800s would say to an Indian-American woman as Governor appointing an African-American man to become Senator...

My have we come a long way as a nation birthed in equality.

What say you?
