Michigan to Appoint Emergency Manager over Detroit

The City of Detroit is failing: $100 million in cash-flow deficit, $1.9 billion in unfunded pension liabilities and the one of the housing markets in America today, led by an exodus of hundreds of thousands of residents to other parts of the State and outside of Michigan altogether.

With all of this weighing heavy over Michigan, the Governor has decided to appoint an emergency manager over Detroit, in essence a temporary eighteen month takeover of the failing urban wasteland of unsold houses, political corruption and ravaging poverty. A major blow to the pride of Detroit, at one time the land of automotive ingenuity and Ty Cobb.

According to reports the Governor already has someone in mind for the thankless position, which will task the unnamed individual to great mental distress - as he attempts to fix over a century of bad policy and bad governance in just one year six months - perhaps building Rome in one day would be easier.

However, there have been speculative rumors within political circles of America's most famous turnaround artist taking the appointment: former Massachusetts Governor, and 2012 GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney. And while this speculation is being fueled by just one influential Slate writer - perhaps he is on to something.

Why not Mitt?

He turned around dozens of failing businesses with Bain Capital during his tenure, and then he rescued the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and actually turned a profit while doing so and then he successfully led the great State of Massachusetts. So why not bring in Mitt and let him try to turnaround the worst failure of all.

Not like he could do much harm if he failed, Detroit's just that as it is.

What say you?
