Private Emily Tomkins, an Army Combat Medic in the British forces, was awarded a Mention in Despatches for her heroics in Helmand Province, where she saved a severely wounded soldier's life and dragged him to safety after stemming the loss of blood from his injuries.
Private Emily Tomkins, Army Medic in the 4 Medical Regiment |
You see, the young soldier lost both of his legs in combat and after administering morphine to him, Tomkins had to deny him more of the powerful drug for fear of killing him, much to the suffering man's despair, who's only response was to ask the pretty Medic to "well do something useful and show me your boobs."
Our heroine kindly ignored the request and saved the young soldier's life.
However, if you were to consider the British media and the American grunt reporting of this story, it would seem the main story is a young infantryman maintaining his grunt bravado in the face of becoming a double amputee on the battlefield, and not the young medic who saved his life despite a likely drug influenced plea for cleavage.
While both soldiers are undoubtedly heroes for their roles in the Western efforts to defeat Jihadist forces and secure Afghanistan, I do believe we should honor Private Emily Tomkins more for her actions which saved a young man's life, and not sensationalize the story by including a grunt bravado sex bent.
What say you?
