Ambassador Caroline Kennedy?
It is being reported that Caroline Kennedy, the only surviving child of President John F. Kennedy, is close to being named the United States Ambassador to Japan, which would set her upon a diplomatic path that many in her dynastic family have traversed before.
Ms. Kennedy, who briefly and horrifically sought appointment to the U.S. Senate following the resignation of Hillary Clinton in 2009, avidly supported President Obama's candidacy in the 2008 Democrat Primaries and although she failed in her publicity bid to replace Mrs. Clinton in the Senate, she has enough political fortune and clout to be considered for this lush appointment.
The news also showcases the lack of seriousness that goes into selecting Ambassadors to represent United States interests in Tokyo, as President Clinton tapped former Vice-President Mondale and former Speaker Tom Foley, and the current occupant's only qualifications is the large sums of money he contributed in 2008 to the President's campaign.
As far as diplomatic posts go, Japan is one of the least important and often reserved for political supporters and washed up bored statesmen with nothing else to do, so I really see no reason for Kennedy to not go to Tokyo and represent the United States... I mean how much worse could it really get?
What say you?
