NY Assemblyman Arrested for Bribery, Brought Down by Undercover Colleague

New York Assemblyman Eric Stevenson (D-Bronx) and four associates were indicted on federal bribery charges for accepting $22,000 worth of bribes to both publicly and legislatively support opening an adult daycare center in his district, even going so far as introducing legislation to satisfy the bribe.

Stevenson's indictment makes him the second New York lawmaker to fall to the federal attorney's office in just the past week for bribery charges, with State Senator Malcolm Smith's (D) scheme to buy his way into the Mayoral election sending shock waves through the Big Apple's political corners of power.

But the story doesn't end there... Assemblyman Stevenson was ratted out by a fellow lawmaker, who in the face of perjury charges after he was elected in 2008, turned into a mole and has worked uncover - even to the point of wearing an wire around colleagues - to expose the dismal culture of political corruption that has infected Albany.

New York Assemblyman Nelson Castro (D-Bronx) resigned Thursday afternoon as part of his deal with federal prosecution after playing a pivotal role in the indictment of his colleague, and with now three New York lawmakers to fall from political grace this week, the only question is who will be next?

There is now obviously a very public war on political corruption within New York State's legislative body and with the undercover work of Castro out for the world to see, one must wonder how many more bad apples were discovered during his four years in the Assembly and how many of those the feds have open cases on.

Very interesting developments from the State Capitol.

What say you?
