Shooting suspect Dylann Roof appears in South Carolina court: Bond set at $1 million dollars
Dylann Roof, the young man accused in the shooting deaths of nine people at a historic black church in Charleston, made his first South Carolina court appearance on Friday.
Magistrate James Gosnell set bond for Roof at $1 million dollars for a weapons charge. Gosnell doesn't have the authority to set bond on the nine murder counts against Roof, which will be determined by a circuit judge at a later date.
Relatives of all the victims made tearful statements during the bond hearing.
"Charleston is a very strong community. We have a big heart. And we're going to reach out to everyone, all victims. And we will touch them," Judge Gosnell said.
