President Obama vetoes $612 billion defense bil

President Barack Obama vetoed a sweeping $612 billion defense policy bill Thursday in a rebuke to congressional Republicans, and insisted they send him a better version that doesn't tie his hands on some of his top priorities.

“I’m going to be sending it back to Congress, and my message to them is very simple: Let’s do this right,” Mr. Obama said before affixing his signature to a formal veto message to congressional leaders. “We’re in the midst of budget discussions. Let’s have a budget that properly funds our national security as well as economic security.”

The President wants the sequester to stay in place. It is all planned to go down so that the President gets the defense cuts and the Republicans get blamed for them.

Obama needs those defense cuts to pay for the additional entitlements resulting from Obamacare. You may not like him but he is no dummy. He realizes he needs to work on the budget but whatever he gets he is going to get on the backs of Republicans. Underestimating him would be a huge mistake.

If you don't believe he wants the defense cuts go to the White House website and check the budget projections that come with the 2013 budget. He is cutting defense spending from 3.6% of GDP currently to only 2.6% in ten years. As far as he is concerned the sequester is a good deal.

That was three years ago. I just checked the new projections with the 2016 "proposed budget" and for 2025 they are projecting that defense will only be 2.3% of GDP, so they have planned that it continue dropping. In the Obama playbook defense has a very low priority.

Secretary of Defense Bob Gates was quite clear when he wrote how appalled he was, listening to Obama and Hillary Clinton speak about the lives of our men and women in the military purely in terms of how best to advance their political agenda.

Both Obama and Hillary Clinton lied to the public about the cause of the deaths in Benghazi, again for political purposes.  This latest move by Obama is completely consistent with their past actions, politically motivated with no regard for our men and women in service.

Obama tells us that he has the highest regard for the men and women in the military. That is just as true as:

1) Our relationship with Israel has never been stronger.

2) If you like your health plan, you can keep your health plan.

The only senior official that seems to be even more corrupt is Hillary Clinton, but that undoubtedly comes from her years of practice.
