Wrestling legend Rowdy Roddy Piper dead at 61

Wrestling legend Rowdy Roddy Piper has passed away at the age of 61.

“Rod passed peacefully in his sleep last night. I am shocked and beyond devastated," his agent Jay Schacter confirmed.

Piper, whose real name was Roderick George Toombs, was inducted into the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Hall of Fame in 2005.

"WWE is deeply saddened that Roderick Toombs, aka “Rowdy” Roddy Piper — WWE Hall of Famer and Intercontinental Champion — passed away today at the age of 61

"WWE extends its sincerest condolences to Toombs’ family, friends and fans," the WWE said in a
statement.

"Roddy Piper was one of the most entertaining, controversial and bombastic performers ever in WWE, beloved my millions of fans around the world. I extend my deepest condolences to his family," WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon said.

A family member said, "Our family is saddened by the sudden passing of our father and beloved husband, Roderick Toombs aka Rowdy Roddy Piper."

Piper is survived by his wife, Kitty, and their four children.
